Because they hadn't written
together previously and had only
eight days to complete the project,
they patterned several songs after
bands they both liked. So you can
hear some Ramones in "Gelt
Melts',' some the Who in "Jewish
Girls': as well as some Beach Boys.
In fact, a look at the band on the
www.leevees.com Web site has
each member adopting the family
name LeeVee, in homage to
Gardner's childhood rabbi (just
like the Ramones, who adopted a
common name — yes, Joey
Ramohe's given name was Jeffrey
Hyman).
-For Gardner, the album is about
family, tradition, food and cultural
identity. Leaving the religious com-
ponent to others, he and -
Schneider, and the rest of the
LeeVee mishpachah (family), cele-
brate and honor Chanukah and
being Jewish and have a blast
