Jerry Levine of Car Pack Manufacturing work with Teresa Schwartz of

JVS' new HR Solutions.

Bill Carroll
Special to the Jewish News

VS, the Southfield-based non-
profit organization that has
spent 63 years helping people
meet employment challenges
through counseling, training and
support services, is now doing the
same for other non-profit groups
and small- to mid-sized compa-
nies.
JVS recently launched a new
business venture called HR
Solutions Group—its first sub-
sidiary — to provide human
resource services to business own-
ers who don't have the time and
people to handle those phases of
business themselves.
WS, formerly known as Jewish
Vocational Services, last year
helped nearly 30,000 individuals
and many companies and unions
through 60 support programs.
"But we've packaged HR
Solutions under a different
umbrella, with more targeted, top-
quality, state-of-the-art services to
allow clients to spend more time
focusing on their sales and core
business',' said Teresa Schwartz,
JVS vice president for human
resources and managing director

of the new HR Solutions Group.
"Outsourcing human resources
is one of the latest business trends,
brought on by such things as sky-
rocketing health care costs and an
avalanche of resumes from people
who lost their jobs because of
downsizing and the depressed
economy.
"Our mission is to guide compa-
nies on more cost-effective ways of
doing business. By outsourcing
some or all of the HR functions,
they can cover their costs at afrac-
tion of the cost of in-house HR."
HR Solutions Group, with six
employees, had to be set up as a
subsidiary of JVS because it's a
separate legal entity, charging a fee
for its services, whereas the main
JVS organization is non-profit. HR
Solutions charges companies $15
per employee to provide human
resource services.
Besides benefit administration,
which includes compliance with
governmental agencies, HR
Solutions takes over recruiting and
staffing, training and development,
labor negotiations, interviewing
and testing, disciplinary action
consultation, exit interviews, work-
