Years of exile and repeated expulsions of Jews across the globe mirrored the
early experience of our forefather Abraham. The theme of uprootedness has been
molded into the Jewish psyche and has had a most profound influence on Jewish
life today. This lecture explores the evolution of the Jewish people throughout
history.

Itsy's own class is getting into it
now. Becky Brodsky has seized her
walker and risen to her feet, the
better to rub her spine with her
hands in another of the Brocade
exercises.
"I'm sending you all up to Triple
A," Lieberman calls. "You're headed
for the big leagues:'
Lieberman and his business
partner Linda Kay — "She's the
best. I'm just her opening act" —
opened a studio in downtown
Birmingham three years ago. It's
called YogaChi and combines the
disciplines of the soft martial arts
and spiritual harmony
He's there twice a week at 7 a.m.
to hold classes for business people.
He also gives motivational speech-
. es that combine sales techniques
with Asian relaxation exercises,
teaching how to handle and calm
stress.
"Next exercise Itsy calls to the
seniors. "Swimming Dragon."
"Oh, my God',' cries a-woman
from the far side of the atrium. "I
can't wait. That's a good one."
The entire class breaks up.
"When she got here today she
was barely even looking up',' Says •
Fleischman staffer Roberta
Peterman, who has been assisting
Lieberman with the program.
"Look at her now. She's absolutely
bouncing."
After about 40 minutes, the class
ends. Even Sam Malkes, who had
to be cajoled into participating, is
up on his feet to the movements.
"I'd like to get this on cable TV
and bring it into seniors' resi-
dences all over the country," says
Lieberman. "In my opinion, that
would be a great mitzvah. These
older people need someone to
deliver that to them.
"I've spent most of my career in
sales, delivering new ideas, new
products, always being up.
Wouldn't it be great if I could use
that knowledge for something like
this?" E
