But when he shared a staggeringly low
statistic of American high school stu-
dents who actually graduate, the com-
ment brought audible dismay, but also
reinforced great satisfaction Yeshiva's
success.
"We are very proud that nearly 100
percent of our high school students
graduate and go on to institutions of
higher learning," said the Yeshiva's
dean, Rabbi Avrohom Fishman.
Guests at the dinner, which was
chaired by U.S. District Judge Avern
Cohn of Detroit, witnessed Gloria and
Edward Meer become the school's most
recent Golden Torah Awardees. Penny
and Harold Blumenstein and Hillel and
Ethel Abrams joined the ranks of a
group honored as Yeshiva Guardians
and the creation of the Isakow

Endowed Chair in Torah Education at
the Yeshiva, by Hilary and Selwyn
Isakow, was announced.
Many in the crowd of 2,311 were
families of the 802 students who attend
the Yeshiva. Others are involved in the
school's Partners in Torah, an adult
education program joining together
nearly 400 participants each week.
Kerry stressed to the group the sig-
nificance of the Yeshiva as a place that
offers its students "the structure and •
expectations" that create a guidepost
for them.
And said Rabbi Fishman: "This is a
team effort that includes dedicated
teachers and parents in an environ-
ment and a school conducive to dedica-
tion to learning both in Torah and sec-
ular studies!' El
