Insurance coverage can cur- rently be denied if there is even a chance that one might travel to Israel. Such discriminatory practices can be stopped through the support of this leg- islation. The Jewish Community Council of Metropolitan Detroit asks you to contact your member of Congress and ask them to cosponsor the bill. • Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., is sponsoring legislation that would create an American Jewish History Month every January, parallel- ing similar efforts that have created Women's History Month and Black History Month. The legislation would offi- cially recognize the significant contributions made by American Jews to America's history and culture. • As genocide continues unabated in the Darfur region of Sudan, the Jewish Community Council urges you to contact your member of Congress and press them to cosponsor the Darfur Peace & Accountability Act (S. 1462 and HR 3127). The legislation would place sanctions on Sudanese govern- ment leaders, increase support for the African Union peace- keeping force, and other steps to end the genocide. As Jews, we are all too familiar with the horrors of genocide, and it is incumbent upon us to fight any genocide against any group.
