Catherine Willows and Gil Grissom, stars of Bruckheimer's

hit CBS series CS!: Crime Scene Investigation

Fearless. Bruckheimer also has
received many movie awards —
but never a best-picture Oscar.

Passion For Hockey

Bruckheimer's per-film produc-
tion fee is said to be several mil-
lion dollars, highest in the busi-
ness. That has allowed him to
own a home in Brentwood, Calif.,
and a farm in Kentucky complete
with an indoor ice-skating rink
where he can indulge his passion
for hockey. He still often plays in
pickup hockey games on Sunday
nights. He played Little League
baseball and hockey as a young-
ster in Detroit. He also runs or
rides a bike every morning. He's
married to author Linda Bruck-
heimer and has a stepdaughter.
Bruckheimer has been
described as a "relentless perfec-
tionist," often sitting through 30-
40 screenings of his movies, "just
to understand how the public
thinks and reacts;' he explains.
After the public screenings, he
sometimes reshoots some
scenes. "I just want my pictures
to be entertaining;' he says. Each
film starts with his signature
logo: a lightning bolt hitting the
sky, a symbol, he points out, of
"fast-moving, high-energy"
films. He travels often, but, when

November 10 . 2005

he's in town, he shows up at the
office every day.
"He's not a guy who phones in
at noon to check up from beside
his pool," says a longtime staffer.
His desk is obsessively free of
clutter, offering no hint that its
owner is one of the busiest per-
sons in Hollywood. Bruckheimer
apparently got the work ethic
from his salesman father, who, he
said,"was on the job about 16
hours a day. But that was work;
what I'm doing is fun."
Added Kratchman: "Clearly,
history will record the amazing
career of a Detroit kid who
loved the movies and would go
on to do his part to change the
face of the movie and television
industry." ❑
