How did you get involved with My

Big Fat Independent Movie?

"The producer Chris Gore [for-
merly of Royal Oak] approached
me and Yoni Berkovits, my writ-
ing partner at the time, with a
premise for a movie he wanted to
make. He basically hired us to
write the movie to spoof the
independent film genre. He
pitched it to us as a Scary Movie
type of film!"

How did you get started?

"The first thing we did was go
back to all the classic — and
famous — indie films, watch
them; and then we came up with
the story, main characters, and
jokes we wanted in there. We
wrote a couple drafts, gave it to
the producer; and he took it from
there, making more changes to
the script!"

How did it feel to actually view the
final product, which already
opened in film festivals across the
country and is being released in
cities including L.A. and New York
and now Canton Township?

"It felt great to see the movie. It's
the first feature I've written that's
actually been made into a movie.
That's a very rare thing in
Hollywood.
And it's amazing that it's opening
in Detroit so my friends and family
can see it in a real movie theater
— before it goes to DVD."
