So nearly two years ago, he and John, both of Harper Woods, opened Wholley
NIollev in a bright orange building with green trim, and started to make Hilma's
recipe for customers. They sell about 100 of the baked specialties each week.
The cakes, baked with real carrots and covered with a silky smooth frosting,
were described last month by a Detroit News taste test panel as "pretty as a picture
(with) good flavor and good whipped frosting."
"My goal is to take the cake national and have a percentage of its sales go to
help the hungry around the world," Knofsky says. Already featured in various news-
papers and on local TV shows, he says, "Next I want to get the cake on Oprah."
And there's a chance, he added, "because I hear she likes carrot cake." ❑
