Rabbinic Stories New York University Professor Jeffrey Rubenstein will speak on "Rabbinic Stories: Between History and Literature" 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the University of Michigan. His talk takes place in Room 3050 of the Frieze Building, 105 S. State St., in Ann Arbor. In his lecture, Rubinstein will discuss whether rabbinic stories — from the Talmud, Midrash and other works of rab- binic literature — should be viewed as reliable historical and biographical sources, or whether they are better charac- terized as didactic fiction that should be studied with the tools of literary analysis. He will discuss the nature of the rabbinic story and the reasons for recent shifts in scholarly approaches regarding the stories of Hillel, Akiba, Shimon bar Yohai and other great rabbis of the talmudic era. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call (734) 615- 1287. Israeli Genders It seems more and more Israeli bands are singing in English these days.
