Let It Rain

Rain Pryor, daughter of comedian-actor
Richard Pryor, is an actress, singer, writer,
producer and comedian, as well as an edu-
cator and activist for multiple sclerosis.
In her one-woman show Fried Chicken
and Latkes, she explored her Jewish rela-
tives (on her mother's side) and her
father's African-American family — as
well as her tortuous journey to self-
acceptance. She is currently working on a
film version of the award-winning pro-
duction.
The Anti-
Defamation League
brings Rain Pryor
to town for an
evening of cocktails,
a strolling dinner
and comedy 6:30

Ellis Island Elegy

The Warren Symphony Orchestra begins
its 2005-2006 season with a celebration of
the American experience 3 p.m. Sunday,
Nov. 6, at the Warren Woods Community
Theatre, 13400 12 Mile Road, in Warren.
The program features Peter Boyer's 2002
composition, Ellis Island: The Dream of
America, inspired by the Ellis
Island Oral History Project, and
tells the stories of seven immi-
grants to the United States, whose
narratives will be performed by
local actors.
Ellis Island reflects the musical
styles of such Jewish-American
composers as Aaron Copland and
Leonard Bernstein, as well as the
distinct musical cultures of the featured
immigrants from other countries.

In keeping with the concert's American
theme, the orchestra also will play "Jubilo"
from American Ballads by Pulitzer Prize-
winning Jewish-American composer-con-
ductor Morton Gould, and Copland's high-
spirited rendition of the American West,
Billy the Kid.
Tickets are $20 adults; $18 seniors; $10
college students; $5 grades 12 and under.
Call (586) 754-2950; tickets also available
at the door.

Make. 'Em Laugh

Jewish clown Elliot Zimet is just weeks
into his rookie season as a circus clown
with the 134th edition of Ringling Bros.
and Barnum & Bailey Circus. A year ago,
the 21-year-old New Yorker, just a few
years out of SAR (Salanter Akiba
Riverdale) day school and the Professional
Performing Arts High School, was taking
the subway to the circus, "and now I'm on
a circus train:' he told the Jewish Week.
"It's a beautiful thing:'

As a clown, Zimet plays himself, only in
exaggerated form: an urban, pop guy from
New York City. "I want to bring a young
edge to Clown Alley," Zimet told a
Philadelphia paper about his costume's
funky denim clothes and oversize sneak-
ers.
Also taking on the role of the Three
Ring Adventure host, Zimet, in addition to
introducing audiences to the show and
inviting ticket holders to participate in
such classic circus activities as juggling
and balancing, performs magic with his
pet birds: 10 doves and his 2-year-old
Macaw, named Cameo.
