Mysticism Focus
"Kabbalah and that Kafkaesque

The talk will be given by Rabbi
Boruch Cohen, spiritual leader of
the Birmingham-Bloomfield Chai
Center.
Post-modern mysticism is a
term coined by Rabbi Cohen for
the application of ancient Jewish
mystical wisdom to life in the
modern world.
The talk costs $36, which
includes a kosher buffet; tax and

New Minyan
Congregation Beth Shalom
will introduce a new spiritual
Shabbat experience on Saturday,
Nov. 19. The Library Minyan
will be a full Shabbat service led
by Beth Shalom congregants.
The minyan, which will be
open to the entire family, will
include Shacharit, Torah service
and Musa': A luncheon will fol-
low.
The congregation is seeking
women, men, teenagers and fam-
ilies to help kickoff this Shabbat

Mishnah Study
Adat Shalom Synagogue will host
a Sunday morning Mishnah
series with Rabbi Daniel Nevins
at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 6, 13, 20.
In Judaism, the first part of the
Talmud, the Mishnah, is the sys-
temized collection of both the
oral law of the Old Testament
and the political and civil laws of
Judaism.
There is no charge to attend
this event. The community is

Relief Thanks
The Congregation Beth Shalom
Men's Club was recognized by
Eric B. Stillman, executive direc-
tor of the Jewish Federation of
Greater New Orleans, for the
group's "generous donation to
the Hurricane Katrina Relief
Fund."
In Stillman's letter to club
president Neil Weiner, he wrote
about the "thousands of Jews
from the greater New Orleans
area (who) are displaced and
unemployed"
He said the Beth Shalom
Men's Club "generosity will allow
us to help rebuild ... lives and
the Jewish infrastructure of our
devastated community."

Weiner recently returned from
two weeks as an American Red
Cross volunteer in Lake Charles,
La. Recently, he gave a presenta-
tion at Congregation Beth
Shalom about his experiences.
Veterans Honored
The Congregation B'nai Moshe
Men's Club will honor military
veterans of the synagogue Friday,
Nov. 11. The event is open to the
community.
The evening will begin with a
Kabbalat Shabbat service at 4:45
p.m. A color guard from the
Jewish War Veterans will present
flags and Veterans' Day readings
will be offered.
At 6:30 p.m. there will be a
congregational family dinner.
The cost is $20 per person ($12
for children ages 4-11).
Following dinner, veterans
from the United States, Canada
and Israel will share memories
from their service. There will be
a photo display of military por-
traits and snapshots.
