Are there any similarities? Which is harder? Meg Wolitzer, The Position $7 lunch and learn A: In one way I believe they share many of the same characteristics, and if I wasn't an entrepreneur, I couldn't have been a fitness expert or a writer. I think being a writer is probably the most challenging because as I was writing my book, I had some- thing like 4,000 ideas in my head and the challenge was to put it down on paper. You also need to know what you're good at and when you need help, and how to get the best and brightest on your team — an important lesson for any street-smart entrepreneur to remember. So when I began [my book], I got the best ghost writer, Wes Smith, to help. 1 p.m. (WB) Gigi Anders, Jubana: The Awkwardly True and Dazzling Adventures of a Jewish Cubana Princess 1 p.m. (JPM) 1 p.m. (1PM) Sam Freedman, Who She Was A 12 p.m. (AA) 1 p.m. (WB) to Lo Mein former fitness trainer to the stars — Bette Midler, Priscilla Presley and Harrison Ford among them — body builder Jake Steinfeld, a college dropout who went on to run the multimillion dollar compa- ny Body By Jake, saw them all naked — "stripped" of the trappings of their fame and fortune. As he taught them to get fit, he learned from them about making one's dreams come true. In I've Seen a Lot of People Naked, and They've Got Nothing on You (Amacom; $21.95), the street-smart entrepreneur passes along the real-world les- sons he learned about triumphing in the business world. And you Fanious know what? I'm still People Naked, hearing it even and They've though we're in our Got Nothing fifth season and still on You! growing. A: The most important advice I have is that Q: Has the Judaism as a religion or an ethnicity influenced your life? A: A little. I remember at my bar mitzvah if you have the passion, everything else will follow including the dough. As I write in my book, you can't go wrong if you put your street smarts and your talents and drive getting all those checks from relatives I never knew. I thought to myself, "Man, when I was older I was going have all this money." I found out later that my parents spent it on the bar Enoch Brater, Arthur Miller: A Playwright's Life and Works Who's On First on page 62 mitzvah. I learned a lesson early in my life that you have to be in control of your own destiny. Q: Did you encounter resistance when building your businesses because of being Jewish? If so, how did you handle it? Or do you think those days are over? A: I have never encountered any problems being Jewish. And I treat everyone the same way no matter their ethnicity, faith, gender or race. I also like to point out that I was the first Jew on the Family Channel to have a sit- uation comedy, Big Brother Jake, which ran for four years. I'm very proud of that. Q: How did you enlist Steven Spielberg to write a foreword to your book? A: I've known "Wiels" for 20 years, first as a client and then for the past 15 years as a good friend. He has been like a big brother, always very supportive of me, and I value his friendship tremendously. (I nicknamed him Wiels because the wheels in his brain were always churning up new things.) — Diana Lieberman 61
