Regarding the Other Views corn-
mentary"Respect The Holidays"
(Oct, 13, page 46), I am a graduate
of Michigan State University, and I
not only missed class during
school for the High Holidays, but
also, because I am Orthodox, I
missed for Sukkot and Simchat
Torah as well as the first two days
and last two days of Pesach and
Shavuot. It can be done.
I even went through middle
school and high school in the West
Bloomfield area before those days
were given off, and I still made it
through.
I do hope there are more people
out there that have the same out-
look as you and I. Are we in jeop-
ardy of raising a generation of
apathetic young Jewish adults?
Who will be our leaders when this
Generation reaches adulthood?

Pinter's Venom

I was quite dismayed to read about
British playwright Harold Pinter in
the "Celebrity Jews" section by
Nate Bloom (Oct. 20, page 53). It is
true that Pinter is Jewish and he is
one of many Jewish Nobel Prize
winners. However, in Mr. Bloom's
breakdown of how we derive who
is Jewish, he left out an important
category: Jews who are anti-Israeli
(and in this case anti-American).
Pinter, in 1988 claimed that
Israel used "force and beatings" of
Palestinians as a policy when it

was not true. He also claimed that
Israel used nuclear weapons
against the Palestinians. In
November 2002, he stated that
Israel was the cause of all the vio-
lence in the world, according to
FrontPageMagazine.com .
This award was given to him for
being anti-American, not for any
great literary achievement on his
part. Pinter is a leftist who sup-
ports Marxist Cuba, Serbian dicta-
tor Slobodan Milosevic and who,
in 1993 (during the Clinton White
House, not George W. Bush's), stat-
ed,"I believe the United States is a
truly monstrous force in the
world."
We Jews, as a community, must
learn the difference between our
friends and our enemies. We can-
not blindly say one is good just
because he is a Jew, or take pride
in a Nobel Prize winner just
because he is Jewish. There is no
difference between Pinter and
Noam Chomsky and all the other
leftists. They are not the friends of
the Jewish people.

Corrections

•"A Thing Of Beauty" (Oct. 20,
page 51) should have indicated
that it was written by IN special
writer Bill Carroll.

• In "McCartney's Kosher
Connection" (Oct. 13, page 55),
Mary, rather then Stella, should
have been identified as Paul
McCartney's older daughter.
