us would go into the AI class-
room during our lunch hour and
in between classes, just to be
with the kids. By December, I had
such a love for these kids that I
wanted to do something more.
With some help, I wrote an essay
and a grant application. Within a
month, the AI program received
a $500 grant to buy sensory toys
for the students who had autism.
This got even more kids involved,
and the community service class
doubled in size."

ELIGIBLE

"My dad and I were very close to
the Weinstein family so we decid-
ed to become team leaders for a
nationwide 5K walk sponsored
by MADD on Sept. 24. I organ-
ized my own team, called Step
Forward, and we raised about
$1,100. My dad was one of the
highest fund-raisers in the coun-,
try. His team, the Weinstein
Project, raised over $9,000."

Does your future include working
with children with special needs?

"Definitely. I want to become a
special education teacher when I
grow up, with a certification in
autism. In the meantime, I'm tak-
ing a course at the Judson Center
so I can babysit for children with
autism."
