Testimonial: "Royal Catering presented us with an assortment of mouth-
watering menu selections to choose from. Close attention was paid to every
detail involved with home catering and our specific needs (for a kosher
family and friends' pre-wedding party).
Jeff and the Royal Catering staff were professional and stress-free to work
with. We were so pleased with the success of our party - we hired him to do
one two weeks later:"

riter Dan Greenburg, as
Halloween approaches,
can look back on child-
hood and adult celebrations that
found him in the role of cowboy.
That character was very different
from the ones he created for his
latest — and Halloween-appropri-
ate — children's series, Secrets of
Dripping Fang
Book One: The Onts (Harcourt;
$11.95), the first volume of a
planned print quartet set in
Cincinnati, Ohio, introduces sister
and brother orphans trying to
escape oversized insects disguised
as people.
Greenburg's latest project
lengthens a diverse resume that
includes 66 published books, six
produced movies, some 200 maga-
zine articles and a handful of plays
performed on and Off Broadway.
Perhaps his most noted accom-
plishment came through the pages
of How to Be a Jewish Mother, first
published more than 30 years ago.
Writing For Kids
"[Dripping Fang] is the first chil-
dren's series that has allowed me
to be as inventive as I could be
and even use adult humor, and its
also the first time I've gone into
depth in character while writing
for children',' says Greenburg, 69,
who has been to Michigan many
times to promote his work or visit
relatives in Battle Creek.
"Another first in my writing for
children is that the publisher
allowed me input into the deci-
sions about design and illustra-
tions. That was a thrill for me
because of my art background,
which includes a master's degree
and experience as a designer and
illustrator!'
Greenburg, whose other chil-
dren's projects have included the
series The Zack Files and
Maximum Boy, has polished his
writing for young people by get-
ting students' reactions during
school presentations.
"The three things kids tell me
they like most in books are
humor, scary material and gross
situations:' says Greenburg, who
grew up in Chicago and now lives
outside New York City. "They'll
find all that in Secrets of Dripping
Fang
"It turns out that reluctant read-
ers are very fond of my books, and
some of the reasons are that I tend
to write like one 10-year-old boy
talking to another and use short
sentences, short paragraphs and
short chapters that end in cliff
hangers. I've learned that 'under-
pants' is the funniest word you can
use in a book when you're reading
aloud to kids. They almost fall
down laughing."
The author, whose father was a
professional artist and whose
mother was a Hebrew teacher, had
planned to take on his father's
career although his grandfather
had encouraged an interest in
writing. The slow transition fol-
lowed his reading of The Catcher
in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.
