Letters from page 6

The 19th annual West
Bloomfield Community Fame
Games were on Oct. 2 at the Jewish
Community Center in West
Bloomfield. The event was a cele-
bration of abilities, spirit, and
friendship. More than 100 adults
and children with special needs
participated in an Olympic-style
opening ceremony, track, field and
swimming events, and a BBQ
lunch. More than 100 volunteers
helped the day run smooth.
I want to thank the JCC for host-
ing the games, our title sponsor,
the Michigan Jewish Sports
Foundation, many other commu-
nity business who contributed to
the event, our MC Sherry Margolis,
the many volunteers who gave sev-
eral hours of their Sunday morn-
ing, the JCC Special Needs
Department staff and, of course,
the athletes who came out to par-
ticipate and enjoy the day.
As the volunteer coordinator, I
watched as volunteers and partici-
pants smiled and celebrated their
accomplishments together. It was a
"feel good" day for everyone
involved. We hope to see everyone
back for the 20th year of the West
Bloomfield Community Fame
Games.

•In the Around Town column on
the Stars' Guitars fund-raiser to
benefit the Pediatric Cancer
Survivor Scholarship Program at
William Beaumont Hospital in
Royal Oak ("Stars' Guitars!" Oct. 6,
page 24), the names of co-chairs
Melissa and Tim Downey of
Huntington Woods were inadver-
tently omitted. The Downeys were
instrumental in coordinating the
fund-raiser, which took place on
Sept. 24 at the Shriners
Auditorium and Conference Center
in Southfield. They also succeeded
in collecting the autographed gui-
tars, signed by rock stars, which
were auctioned off to help raise
tens of thousands of dollars for the
scholarship program.

•"Remembering Max And Simon"
(Oct. 6, page 14) should have stat-
ed that President Bush paid tribute
to the memory of philanthropist
Max Fisher before the Republican
Jewish Coalition in Washington,
D.C., on Sept. 21.
