Congregation Beth Shalom's
Center for Jewish Living will
offer an adult spiritual study
retreat weekend from Friday
evening Nov. 11, through
Sunday morning, Nov. 13, at
Butzel Retreat on the Tamarack
campus in Ortonville. The focus
will be on tzedakah (charity).
Rabbi Aaron Bergman will be
the resident scholar for the pro-
gram titled "Tzedakah — Do
the Right Thing — Your Money
and Your Time."
The program will include
opportunities for learning and
discussion as well as medita-
tion, prayer and outdoor activi-
ties. Cost will be $136 per per-
son for Beth Shalom members;
and $150 per person for non-
members, which includes a pri-
vate room and bath, meals and
all materials for the program.
The deadline for registration is
Oct. 30.

Explore Faith

Adat Shalom Synagogue is
offering a three-part series
titled "A Light Onto the
Nations," which will explore
Jewish faith in relation to
Christianity, Islam and
Buddhism. The programs are
set for 8 p.m. on Thursdays,
Oct. 20, Nov. 17, Dec. 15 at Adat
Shalom Synagogue.
The Oct. 20 lecture is titled

"Will the Real Israel Please
Stand Up?" Rabbi Daniel Nevins
will speak on the historic com-
petition between Jews and
Christians for the title of God's
chosen peo-
ple.
The series
will continue
in November
with a discus-
sion by visit-
ing scholar

Rabbi Nevins
Golinkin on
"Us and Them:
Views of
Gentiles in
Rabbinic Literature." Rabbi
Golinkin will look at the way in
which Halachah has viewed
non-Jews and what implica-
tions this has for contemporary
interfaith relations.
The series will conclude in
December with "Apocalypse
Now? Dangers and
Opportunities in Interfaith
Relations Today" with Rabbi
Nevins.

Mitzvah Day

The Youth Federation of Temple
Israel (YFTI) can help with
tasks around the house on
Sunday, Oct. 16, during Mitzvah
Day.
In exchange for a donation,
YFTI members will assist with
any household tasks. Funds
donated will support YFTI pro-
gramming throughout the year.
In addition, a portion of the
proceeds will be donated to
hurricane relief efforts.
