THE SEARCH IS ended for a lot of folks ... That
noted chocolate Bumpy Cake they've been looking for
is now at Giorgio's in Sugar Tree, Orchard Lake Road
north of 15 Mile, West Bloomfield ... The onetime
Sanders delicious stalwart was with long streams of
butter cream on the top (the bumps) and covered
with chocolate frosting.
MAIL DEPT. ... "My husband, Milton, and I cele-
brated our 50th anniversary with a dinner for us and
our family at Bogarts restaurant on West Maple and
Farmington Road [in West Bloomfield], and can't say
enough about the food, service and atmosphere. The
owner Dean was very obliging and cooperative in his
desire to make our party a memorable occasion. He is
one of the kindest persons we have ever dealt with
when planning and making a party" ... Beverly Dunn,
Walled Lake.
CONGRATS ... To Lisa Weisman on her birthday.
ONLY TROUBLE with the three friends buying a
horse together was that it didn't have a name ... So the
problem has been solved for Ed Rosenberg, Lloyd
Schwartz and Dan Kahn, who hope to run their year-
ling the latter part of next spring at Gulfstream Race
Course in Florida ... Where they got the name
President's Date no one knows ... But it could have
something to do with all three being past presidents
of Tam O'Shanter Country Club in West Bloomfield.

meet Oct. 20, Nov. 7 and Dec. 5 at South County Civic
Center, Delray Beach ... Call Harry Lipsitz , (248) 661-

QUESTION & ANSWER DEPT ...
Q. "I've got a big bet with Iz Samson and Sam
Gubov, with the loser taking us and our wives out to
dinner. They both say that Mike Ilitch was in the
restaurant business before he went into the pizza
business. I said he wasn't. Who wins?" ... Al "Fingers
Crossed" Merzon.
A. "You do, Al ... Before opening his first Little
Caesars Pizza carryout restaurant with wife, Marian,
in 1959, Mike was a shortstop in the Detroit farm sys-
tem but never made it to the big time, so got out of
baseball and went into the pizza business ... He sold
the pies in a nightclub, giving back 5 percent to the
owner before opening the first Little Caesars Pizza in
Garden City ... Either Iz or Sam must be thinking
about Hitch's first ventures into the restaurant game
after he became a big Little Caesars' success and
bought the Red Wings and Tigers ... In 1990, Mike
and Chef Jimmy Schmidt opened Tres Vite next to his
Fox Theatre, then Cocina del Sol on Northwestern
Highway in Southfield, and after that, Buster's Bay
fish restaurant on Orchard Lake Road in Orchard
Lake Village ... When that closed, he and Jim Kokus of
Detroit's Opus One opened it again as Jake's on the
Lake ... None of them ever made it. Fl
