Twenty-four-year old Jordan Bass, left, plays Curly, one of Peter Pan's

band of five lost boys.

Bass also has used his dancing
and singing talents as a
munchkin in The Wizard of Oz
and as a kitten in Cats. He has a
bachelor of fine arts degree from
Syracuse University. His sister is
now a casting director in
Hollywood.

Universal Appeal

Why is Peter Pan so popular?
"It's a timeless story about
life's choices and decisions that
everyone can relate to:' Bass
answered. "It's good for the
smallest child because of its
spectacle and fantasy, especially
the thrill of flying. Adults enjoy
the show because it rekindles the
magic of the first time they saw it
when they were children."
Bass says he and the other cast
members look to Rigby each
night for inspiration because "no
matter how many times she's
done this (about 2,500), she's
always out there giving 150 per-
cent:' he said.
The 4-foot, 11-inch Rigby, who
holds 12 medals — eight of
them gold — in international
gymnastics competition,
launched her musical career as
Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz..
She had leading roles in several
other popular musicals, appeared
in movies and TV shows, and
also spent 18 years as a gymnas-
tics commentator for ABC-TV
Sports. She's married to the

show's producer, Tom McCoy.
Rigby upholds the tradition of
a woman playing the boy, Peter
Pan, who was first mentioned in
a 1902 book by author Barrie,
titled The Little White Bird, then
perfected in a play in 1904. Other
female Peter Pans on Broadway
have been Maude Adams,
Marilyn Miller, Eva Le Gallienne,
Jean Arthur, Mary Martin and
Sandy Duncan. After playing the
role one night, Martin collapsed
in her dressing room, moaning:
"This role has to be played by an
acrobat." Enter Rigby.
Other major cast members
coming to the Fisher are Howard
McGillin as Mr. Darling, James
Clow as Captain Hook, Elisa
Sagardia as Wendy, Gavin
Leatherwood as John and Tony
Spinosa as Cecco. ❑
