For many years he was chief financial officer of Paragon Steel Corporation in Detroit and in 1985 was a founding partner in BBK Limited, a financial manage- ment firm. He was also a long- standing and active member of Temple Beth El. After retiring in December 1997, he later became a full-time resident of Scottsdale. Mr. Balan is survived by his wife, Judy Balan; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Rabbi Scott Shpeen of New York; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Rachel Balan of West Bloomfield; grandchildren, Hilary and Adam Shpeen, Andrew, Melissa and Joshua Balan; sister and brother-in- law, Jacqueline and Dr. Donald Bernstein of California; mother- in-law, Lucille Weil of Arizona. BENNETT, 90, of Farmington Hills, died Oct. 7, 2005. He was a mechanical engineer for Continental Motors and Michigan Dynamics. He was also a part time consult- ant for Beswick Corporation and worked until the age of Bennett 89. Mr. Bennett volunteered in the tech- nical library at Jewish Vocational Services and was a past president of Mezericher. MARTIN "MARTY" BRAGMAN, 92, of Waterford, died Oct. 7, 2005. He was a fruit broker in Alpena. After several years in Michigan, the family moved to Miami, Fla. Mr. Bragman had several busi- ness successes and failures throughout the years. Finally, he retired in Bragman Florida, where he and his wife stayed active managing condominiums on Marco Island.
