"Fighting cancer built my strength to find an identity, and I became a professional photographer because of this project." While Saltsman is the only Jewish woman among the three survivors from the Detroit area, there are other Jewish survivors in the book. Betty Rollin, an author and NBC reporter, was one of the first to be open about coping with breast cancer. Monica Yaniv, a scientist from Israel, faced a malignant tumor when she was in her 40s. And Florence Levy, the author's mother, also a survivor, has seen her own mother and a sister lose their battles with breast , cancer. "These diverse women share an outlook," Korotkin says. "They all believe there is so much to live for and have hope for the future." D Breast Cancer Benefit k , \/\/;.r c_-, 1- ) 9 ourouyfi ri•- _ - 51 ,.. , , i 1 .,.
