With that in mind, about 75 members of the Young Adult Division of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit gathered at Midtown Café in Birmingham to enjoy each other's company and help raise money for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. "Young Jews need to lead the way in making an impact," said Jordan Glass of West Bloomfield, a YAD officer and one of the bar night organizers. He has three friends who live in New Orleans — friends he met during a young pro- fessionals mission to Israel. "One lost his business, another one's home was looted:' Glass said. YAD raised almost $1,000, which will be added to the $218,000 that Federation has raised locally. All of the money will go to hurricane victims, both Jewish and non-Jewish, for things like food, water, temporary shelter, medication, health care and counsel- ing. "I wanted to support the Jewish community and I thought this was a great effort:' said Aaron Scheinfield of Troy. "A lot of people have really come out. It shows what people are willing to do in times of crisis:' he said. Midtown Café provided the space and served desserts free of charge. The Detroit Jewish News also sponsored the event. Spotted in the crowd at the Sept. 22 fund-raiser were: Lori Schram of Farmington Hills, Randall Fogelman of Detroit, Marisa Weiner and Bubba Urdan of West Bloomfield, Tony Fayne and Brian Satovsky of Birmingham, Phil Okun and Scott Kaufman of Huntington Woods, Rachel Weber of Troy, and Eric Goodman, Stefenie Sasson and Marla Tapper, all of Bloomfield Hills. ❑ Scott Kaufman of Huntington Woods, Below: Greg and Danielle Glickfeld of West Bloomfield, Jennifer Danny Victor of Sylvan Noparstak of Berkley, Alana Worth of Bloomfield Hills and Rami Garret of Oak Park Lake and Jordan Glass of West Bloomfield Eric Klein of Bloomfield Township and Joseph Druk of Oak Park Lauren Friedman of West Bloomfield, Randall Fogelman of Detroit and Lori Schram of Farmington Hills 20 October 6 . 2005 sim
