Prolific Author

Rabbi Steinsaltz has published
38 volumes of his translation
and elucidation of the
Babylonian Talmud in Hebrew
— an effort begun in 1965 —
and is seven volumes away from
completion. He also has pub-
lished 22 volumes, spanning
four tractates, in English, has
completed 21 volumes in
French, four in Russian and the
first Spanish volume is under
way. The Hebrew version is now
available in an edition with a
new layout, featuring the origi-
nal Vilna page facing the trans-
lation. Additional volumes may
be published in English. Other

with children, Chasidim,
strangers and friends.
Kurzweil relates that when he
refers to quotes from Rabbi
Steinsaltz's books and essays as
