Building Leadership
One of Federation's goals for
the young leadership initiative is
to develop lay leaders and future
donors — areas where the
Central Galilee needs help, said
Karen Kaplan, Federation's staff
liaison to the program.
Tziona Shiriki, a 38-year-old
mother of three from Nazareth
Illit, is one of region's future
leaders. A CPA, she is vice-CFO of
a semiconductor firm.

three years ago and works with
an organization that offers
vocational aid to people with
mental illnesses. She was inter-
ested in visiting JARC, which
assists those with learning dis-
abilities.
"I can learn a lot about the
approach toward those with dis-
abilities because JARC integrates
its clients with society and the
Jewish community and provides
them with the help they need
while not segregating them," she
said. "I think that is a wonderful
way and is something I have to
learn."

and you don't have to do any-
thing in order to feel Jewish.
Here, you have to do something
actively to feel involved and take
care of your own institutions and
feel the connection with Israel
and Jewish life.
"Up to six months ago, I wasn't
up to volunteering. Then I got
involved with Partnership 2000.
It calls for me to get familiar
with people — in my region and
in Detroit?"
The Israelis have proposed six
relatively low-cost community
projects — called the Leadership
