Matt Ahern of Bloomfield Hills tries out a water pipe. or one night this month at Michigan State University, Israel was more than just a place on a map. Israel Fest 2005 brought nearly 500 students, both Jewish and non- Jewish, to experience Israeli cul- ture, taste its cuisine and listen to its music. The event was held at the Rock on the MSU campus in East Lansing. From Kral: Maga self-defense demonstrations to Ahava hand massages, a mock Western Wall of the Temple and Israeli dancing, many aspects of Israeli society were on display. A highlight was a performance by Remedy Ross, a Jewish rapper affiliated with the group Wu Tang Clan. Ross spoke of his Jewish heritage and sang of pride for the State of Israel. The Sept. 15 event was spon- sored by the Jewish Student Union, MSU Hillel, Spartans for Israel and ASMSU student government.
