Temple Emanu-El, the Islamic
Center of America and the Fort
Street Presbyterian Church •
chose the weekend of Sept. 30
through Oct. 2 to participate in
a special interfaith weekend of
services and talks because that
weekend has special signifi-
cance to Muslims,
Presbyterians and Jews.
For the Muslim community,
it is the weekend that immedi-
ately precedes the beginning of
the month of Ramadan, which
formally begins on Oct. 4. For
the Presbyterian community,
that Sunday is "World
Communion and Peacemaking
Sunday." For the Jewish com-
munity it is the weekend just
before Rosh Hashanah.
Rabbi Joseph Klein of Temple
Emanu-El, working with
Muslim and Presbyterian lead-
ers, designated that weekend as
one "Preparing for the Holy." It
will begin at Temple Emanu-El
on Friday night, Sept. 30, with
the 8 p.m. Shabbat worship as
they welcome members from
both the Islamic Center of
America in Dearborn and area
Presbyterian congregations to
their Shabbat worship.
