To Do!

Literacy Classes Start

The Men's Club of Adat Shalom will
sponsor weekly Hebrew Literacy classes
beginning Monday, Oct. 10.
This year's Men's Club program offers
beginning, intermediate and advanced
classes. Students will be recognized at
Men's Club Shabbat on April 1.
Classes run from 7:30-9 p.m.
Mondays. There is a $40 materials fee
for Adat Shalom members and a $45 fee
for all others.
Skilled volunteers teach the aleph-bet
and work on siddur (prayer book) skills
and reading fluency. Don Rudick chairs
this annual program. Call Adat Shalom,
(248) 851-5100, to register or for infor-
mation.

See The Promised Land

Chaye Olam will host a trip to Israel
next June 17-28. This coincides with the

American Conference of Cantor's
Convention and will include a concert by
cantors from around the world. The
package will provide roundtrip airfare
from Detroit to Tel Aviv, as well as hotel
stays in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and at the
Dead Sea.
The tour and all sightseeing will be
conducted in an air-conditioned motor-
coach with an English-speaking guide.
The trip's price is $3,099. For informa-
tion, call Cantor Dubov at (248) 851-

Volunteers Feted

Bar/bat mitzvah students who have vol-
unteered at the food pantry and partici-
pated in the Candle Program will be
acknowledged at Yad Ezra's upcoming
fund-raising dinner, Sunday, Oct. 16, at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek at 6 p.m.
The event will honor Joel Jacob, a long-
time Yad Ezra supporter and activist.

Jeffrey Rosenberg
Kosher Catering and his staff
located at
Adat Shalom Synagogue
wish our entire community
a happy, healthy
and
sweet New Year!

Since Yad Ezra's inception in 1990, vol-
unteers have enabled the Berkley-based
kosher food pantry to provide hundreds
of thousands of pounds yearly to the
needy in the community. As a way of
acknowledging the bar/bat mitzvah vol-
unteers who have given their time and
energy to Yad Ezra's mission in the last
year, the students are being invited to
attend the dinner and be recognized by
the organization's leadership. A reduced
price of $100 (total) for the student and
parents to attend the dinner has been
arranged.
Contact Lea Luger, (248) 548-3663, or
e-mail her at lea@yadezra.org for infor-
mation.
