The Detroit Symphony
Orchestra hosts the third annual
"Marshall Field's Day of Music:'
a 24-hour musical marathon
running 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30,

through 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1.
It will take place on all five
stages of the Max M. Fisher
Music Center in Detroit, includ-
ing Orchestra Hall, the Music
Box, Allesee Hall and two levels
of the four-story atrium lobby.
The event features a concert
by the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra and more than 45
local acts of multiple genres —
from rock, folk and world music
to classical, jazz, R&B, hip-hop
and children's music.
Detroit's history as a hotbed
of rock 'n' roll innovation is at
the heart of this year's festival,
and will be highlighted by a
performance at 10 p.m. Sept. 30
by the rock-blues band Robert
Bradley's Blackwater Surprise.
From noon-5 p.m. Oct. 1, the
second annual "DSO Idol
Contest" will take place, in
which young singers up to age
24 can compete for the chance
to sing with the DSO at a future
concert.
