Grosse Pointe Services

The Grosse Pointe Jewish Council has
scheduled High Holiday services for
Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
Led by Rabbi Ernst J. Conrad with
cantorial soloist Bryant Frank, the
services will be the evening of
Monday, Oct. 3, and the morning of
Tuesday, Oct. 4.
For Yom Kippur, services will be
the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 12,
and throughout the day Thursday,
Oct. 13. On both holidays, there will
be children's services.

Temple Israel's Caring Community is
seeking kind, dedicated volunteers to
assist with ongoing programs and
events located throughout the Detroit
area.
Volunteers are needed to assist at
parties held at area shelters and
orphanages. Volunteer tasks include
distributing cookies and drinks, paint-
ing children's faces and nails and
assisting with arts and crafts projects.
Donations of baked goods, stuffed
animals (new or very gently used) and
new items for mothers (toiletries,
manicure sets, make-up) are accepted
for distribution at the parties.

made possible in part by the George
and Shirley Agree Caring Community
Birthday Party Fund of Temple Israel.

Congregation T'chiyah will host Jordi
Gendra as its visiting rabbi for this
coming year, beginning with Rosh
Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
In November, Gendra will be with
the congregation during the second
weekend of each month until April
2006, conducting services and work-
ing with the congregation to engage
the community in other Jewish events
and activities.
Gendra is a senior rabbinical stu-
dent at the Reconstructionist
Rabbinical College in Philadelphia.
Originally from Spain, he grew up in
an Orthodox congregation and was
introduced to liberal Judaism during a
stay in Israel.

Congregation T'chiyah invites the
community to participate in its
Shabbat services and other activities
during the coming year, including the
upcoming Rosh Hashanah and Yom
Kippur services, at the David and
Miriam Mondry Building, 15000 W.
10 Mile Road, on the A. Alfred
Taubman Jewish Community Campus
in Oak Park.

Torah Center Shabbaton

The Hyman and Sonia Blumenstein
Outreach Institute of Sara Tugman
Bais Chabad Torah Center will host
two programs with Rabbi Tzvi
Freeman, author, musician, Kabbalist
and Tai Chi practitioner, during the
weekend of Sept. 24-25.
Rabbi Freeman resides in Toronto
and is the author of a number of
works on contemporary mysticism.
On Saturday at 11 p.m., before the
Selichot service, Rabbi Freeman will
speak and give an audiovisual presen-
tation on "Being One." Light refresh-
ments will be served.
On Sunday, at 10:30 a.m., he will
speak on "Buddhists, Gurus and
Jewish Meditation." A continental
breakfast will be served. Rabbi
Freeman will also speak at a luncheon
following services on Shabbat, at
approximately 1 p.m., on
"Unorthodox Judaism."
All programs will take place at the
Torah Center, 5595 Maple Road, in
West Bloomfield. For information and

accommodations can be arranged.

Yoga For Babies And Moms

An interactive yoga program for moms
and infants and moms and toddlers
will be offered at Congregation Beth
Shalom. The program is led by Beverly
Price, registered dietitian and yoga
teacher.
Pre-registration is required, $25 for

Participants should dress comfort-
ably and bring a mat and towel to
practice yoga. Classes are scheduled
for Wednesday, Sept. 21, 10:30-11:30

a.m. — crawling to 24 months.
