Anti-Semitism Resolution
Washington/JTA — The U.S. Senate
passed a resolution urging the United
Nations to fight anti-Semitism.
The measure, sponsored by Sen.
Rick Santorum, R-Pa., passed the
Senate on Sept. 15 by unanimous
consent. A similar measure passed the
U.S. House of Representatives.
Genetic Testing
Washington/JTA — A U.S. govern-
ment task force recommended that
Ashkenazi Jewish women and those
whose close relatives have breast or
ovarian cancer consider genetic
screening.
The recommendation by the U.S.
Preventative Services Task Force does
not recommend screening for the gen-
eral population. The specific recom-
mendation for Ashkenazi Jewish
women was made because of the
BRCA genetic mutation, carried by
some 2 percent of Ashkenazi Jews,
which has been linked to the cancers.
Aid For Palestinians
Brussels/JTA — The European Union
boosted its funding to the Palestinian
Authority.
E.U. officials in Brussels said that
the 25-nation bloc would increase its
2005 allotment to the Palestinians to
more than $340 million, around 17
percent more than originally planned.
The extra funds are intended to
help reconstruction in the Gaza Strip.
Prince Harry Apologizes
London/JTA — Britain's Prince Harry
said his decision to wear a Nazi uni-
form to a costume party earlier this
year was "a sign of my own immaturi-
ty.
In an interview to mark his 21st
birthday, the prince apologized once
more for the incident. "Looking back
on it now, it was a very stupid thing
to do, and I've learnt my lesson," he
said.
Hamas Not Allowed
Jerusa/em/JTA —Top Israeli leaders
do not want Hamas to take part in
Palestinian elections.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Ariel
Sharon said Israel wouldn't stop elec-
tions that include Hamas, but also
would not provide any support —
which would make it difficult for the
Palestinians to proceed.
