March Of Living Planned Jewish high school students are encouraged to apply for the 2006 March of the Living program as part of the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization delegation. Thousands of Jewish teens from all over the world will undertake an intense educational trip to Poland and Israel from April 23 to May 7, 2006. The 9th- to12th-graders will visit Auschwitz, Birkenau, Treblinka and .N4ajdanek concentration camps and the former Warsaw Ghetto. They will commemorate Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Memorial Day) in a march from Auschwitz to Birkenau. In Israel during the second week, participants will observe Israel's Yom HaZikaron (Memorial Day) and Yom HaAtzmaut (Independence Day). Participants are required to attend 4-6 pre-trip educational sessions. The cost of the trip is $3,750 plus airfare to New York. Scholarships are avail- able through BBYO, the Israel and Overseas Office of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and through many synagogues. Medical Center Dinner Set The American Committee for Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel, will host its annual dinner 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield. The dinner will honor donors Drs. Harris and Phoebe Mainster with the Dr. David Applebaum Humanitarian Award. The dinner will also commemorate the late Alex Roberg, a Detroit native and longtime contributor to Shaare Zedek who helped raise funds for the hospital for more than 30 years. Known as "the Hospital with a Heart," Shaare Zedek is located in the center of Jerusalem and provides med- ical care to all patients regardless of religious affiliation or cultural back- ground. It has the largest cardiology department, a world-class Department of Emergency Medicine and is a leader in genetic research and medical ethics.
