Society of Michigan will sponsor a bus
trip to the Michigan Historical Museum
in Lansing Sunday, Oct. 9, to view the
exhibit "Movers and Seekers: Michigan
Immigrants and Migrants."
Included in the exhibit are photo-
graphs and family heirlooms of several
of Michigan's Jewish families.
Tour participants will meet at 12:15
p.m. at the parking lot of Einstein
Bagels, on the west side of Orchard
Lake Road, just north of 12 Mile in
Farmington Hills. The estimated time
of return is 5:30 p.m.
The cost is $15 per person for mem-
bers of the Jewish Historical Society or
the Jewish Genealogical Society. The
cost for non-members is $18. Children-
grandchildren, ages 8-18 years, are $8.

University of Michigan Hillel will cele-
brate the spirit of Executive Director
Michael Brooks at a brunch Sunday,
Oct. 9, at 11:30 a.m. at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek, 27375 Bell Road in
Southfield. Brooks has served U-M
Hillel for 25 years.
The brunch, hosted by the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, will
be an opportunity for current and for-
mer U-M students, faculty, friends and
Jewish communal leaders to honor
Brooks.
The keynote speaker will be Professor
Ralph Williams. Brooks will offer his
own reflections on his quarter-century
experience.

"Israel Advocates Trained

Stuart Schoffman, Anti-Defamation
League scholar in residence, will speak
at an Israel advocacy training breakfast
7:45 am. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the
Max M. Fisher Federation building in
Bloomfield Township. The event is
sponsored by the ADL, American
Jewish Committee and Jewish
Community Council.
The event is open to the community
at no charge but a commitment is
required to participate in a new pro-
gram, "Israel Advocates," training volun-
teers to become a community media
response team.

Beginner Hebrew Class Set

The Lifelong Learning program of the
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit's Alliance for Jewish Education
will offer a new beginner's conversational
Hebrew class for students with no prior
knowledge of the Hebrew language.
The class will be taught by Yishai
Castro, an experienced Hebrew
teacher in Detroit for 30 years. It will
meet weekly on Thursdays, 7:30-9:30
p.m., at the Max M. Fisher Federation
Building, Bloomfield Township,
beginning Sept. 22.
Students interested in other levels of
conversational Hebrew can still join one
of many Hebrew classes in progress. To
