CONTRARY TO SOME belief, Joe's

THIRTY YEARS AGO, she wanted
to call her first gift shop A Touch of
Glass, but discovered that a store across
the street was already using it ... So a dis-
appointed Judye Koploy shook her head
and named it after the Franklin house in
which she opened her little 420-square-
foot gift shop.
It was a more than 100-year-old home
(1867) that had been named for the
people who lived there and in the back
made the first Franklin Dry Roasted
peanuts so popular today.
Slade's Gift Shop was there five years,
went to Applegate Square in Southfield
... and is now celebrating its 30-year
anniversary ... in a new 5,000-square-
foot locale, across from Tapper's in
Orchard Lake Mall, Orchard Lake Road
and Maple, West Bloomfield.

QUESTION & ANSWER DEPT ...
Q. "In your column, you mentioned

about Sonny Eliot telling a story about
Ivan Boesky being the son of Sam
Boesky. Didn't you mean Bill Boesky?
Sam was Ivan's uncle. My dad, William
Kaufman, owned Kaufman Restaurant
Supply and put in the entire Brass Rail."
... Patty Kaufman O'Connor.
A. How could I have missed that,
Patty ... I sure remember Ivan working
for his dad, Bill Boesky, as his manager
of the Brass Rail on Adams in Detroit ...
Sam and Bill were brothers ... By the
way, Patty, your dad was one of the
swellest fellows I have known. El
