The New Orleans Jewish Community Center said it could not predict that recovery efforts after Hurricane Katrina would be complet- ed in time to host 1,000 Jewish teenagers from the United States., Canada and Latin America. Phoenix; Vancouver, Canada; and Stamford, Conn.; are scheduled to be host sites. The national Jewish Community Centers Association in New York is seeking a replacement for New Orleans. Detroit Maccabi President Alan Horowitz could not be reached for comment, but recently said he believes several major cities need to step forward because they have never hosted or hosted only once. Detroit hosted the second Maccabi games 1984, had 2,200 Jewish teen athletes here in 1990 and 3,200 in 1998. — Alan Hitsky, associate editor Post 9-11 Security Please join us for "OPERATION BIG EASY" to assist victims of "HURRICANE KATRINA" Sunday, September 18th of WI' u s e cAlti es a 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Powerhouse Gym itefresh M erits Orchard & Maple • West Bloomfield Facilities & Classes for the day will be FREE TO THE PUBLIC Join us for Cardio, Spinning, Kickboxing, Yoga & Pilates classes ALL THAT WE ASK IS THAT YOU MAKE A DONATION All donations received will go to B NAI B'RITH DISASTER RELIEF FUND (to assist hurricane survivors relocated to the Detroit area) THE GREAT NEW ORLEANS FOUNDATION (To assist in relief efforts for the children in Louisiana) 9/15 2005 14 For more information contact: B'nai B'rith at 248-646-3100 or Powerhouse Gym at 248-539-3370 U.S. Sen.
