Soon Duncan Hines cake mixes will
become dairy rather than pareve. The
mixes are popular among kosher cooks
because they can be eaten with meat
meals, and those who are lactose-intol-
erant can enjoy them, too.
After Kosher Today reported the story
in August, e-mails have been circulated
calling for consumers to contact the
company to oppose its decision to add
dairy ingredients, which are designed
to enhance flavors.
Several such e-mails landed at the
JN, with reminders that such protests
turned the tide once before, causing
Nabisco to reverse its decision to make
Stella Dora products dairy and not
pareve.

Huntington Woods. "I usually have a
stockpile and, like most of my friends
who keep kosher, can tell you off the
top of my head which mixes are
pareve. I also have .a teenage boy with
hungry friends, so I tend to have them
around to whip up in a hurry!
"I think if the lactose intolerant and
the kosher populations voiced enough
objection, it might make a difference."

Birmingham Farmers Market Kids Co-op founders Danielle Jacobson, 9, and
her sister Jenna, 7, of Birmingham sell their artwork to Andrew, 9, and Chase
Colton, 4, also of Birmingham.
All proceeds, which have so far totaled $230 in four weeks, go back to help
the Farmers Market.
Danielle thought of the idea after she made a coloring book. They sell art-
work for $1, hand-made cartoon coloring books and spirit sticks for $2.
Their booth will be open like the market, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., every Sunday on
North Old Woodward through Oct. 23.
