Coming off back-to-back appear- ances in the gold medal games in 2003 and 2004, this year's team was a . much younger version and also was hurt by injuries to key starters Dani Dulberg and Sarah Thomas prior to going to San Antonio, according to coaches Rob Kaplan and Ron Silberstein. Even though they were unable to play (although Sarah was able wrap the cast on her arm in bubble wrap so she could be a "courtesy runner"), both Dani and Sarah rooted for the team and enjoyed the activities. Key offensive players during the week were Jessica Kursman, Rachel Scher from Albany, Jules Botham, Sammi McClain and Danielle Kaplan. Amy Silberstein, Alex Siegel, Rachel Klisman and Dayna Elconin played well and were on base many times with walks while anchoring an outfield that improved throughout the week. Sarah Elkus caught almost every inning in the San Antonio heat and Mirele Mann also contributed. Sammi McClain pitched well, especial- ly when she beat Greater Washington. She was pitching a great game against Baltimore, Michael Spickler won gold in the 50 freestyle.
