TITLE: Ethics and Politics Related to End of Life Issues

DESCRIPTION: The question whether to withdraw artificial nutrition and
hydration from terminally ill patients has dominated public
debate in an extraordinary way. Millions of Americans recently
watched videotape of a patient on television, newspaper headlines
chronicled the story, and the case generated more than a dozen
court opinions, as well as statutes from both Congress and the
Florida legislature. Yet the bioethical issues had been well-settled
by other cases. Why did a fairly ordinary end-of-life decision
become so controversial? What does this case tell us about the
way we handle dilemmas in medical ethics?

FEE: No charge - Open to the public
