Joseph McCarthy, died Aug. 11, 2005, in Washington, D.C. He was 90. Time magazine once called Mr. Rosenblatt "the lobbyist with a green thumb for controversy." After earning a degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin in 1936, Mr. Rosenblatt moved to New 111 York City and became a union activist, a civil rights organizer and a leader of Friends of Democracy, a grassroots political action group that combated local fascist and racist organizations. Mr. Rosenblatt served in the Army in the South Pacific dur- ing World War II. He later joined the American League for a Free Palestine, better known as the Bergson Group after its leader, Peter Bergson.
