ead-turning Brazilian design-
er Carlos Miele, popular with
party-going movie stars, soon
will send his fall line of evening wear
to Michigan — all in the interest of
art.
The occasion is the 35th round of
Fash Bash, a gala fashion show and
party to raise funds-for the Detroit
Institute of Arts. The lavish summer
event, planned by the Founders Junior
Council of the DIA, will be held
Saturday evening, Aug. 27, at the
General Motors Wintergarden in the
Renaissance Center.
To celebrate Miele outfits and his
south-of-the-border background and
style, guests will be served Brazilian
cuisine and dance to samba beats.
Among the festivities will be an auc-
tion that features a 2006 Hummer.
"What began as a small, poolside
fashion show 35 years ago has grown
into this wonderful, unique event,"
says Nicole Eisenberg, of Bloomfield
Hills, Fash Bash co-chair working with
Amanda Moncur. "At this event,
guests will see Miele's free-flowing
prints and some exciting men's outfits
styled by different designers."
Fash Bash, for a time, had been a
much larger event with lots of people
attending. Some wore costumes. Last
year, the party was revamped, scaled
down in numbers of attendees but
made more formal.
.
This year's fashion segment, pro-
duced by Saks Fifth Avenue, will have
makeup completed by former
Detroiter Scott Barnes.
"Brazil is a very exuberant country
and rich source of inspiration due to
its biodiversity and richness of cul-
ture," says Miele, whose gowns have
been worn by Christina Aguilera,
Mena Suvari and many other celebri-
ties. "I believe that the women of
Detroit are contemporary thinkers and
globally aware and will be able to
relate to my fashion statements."

artist, uses the handiwork of Brazilian

craft artists to enhance his extravagant
designs. The fashion leader, whose
flagship store is in New York City, will
be featuring silks in bright colors and
prints.
Fash Bash starts at 6:30 p.m. with a
patrons' private reception featuring a
live auction, food and drinks. When
the models start appearing, patrons
will have seating at tables surrounding
the runway. Those holding sponsor
tickets start arriving at 8:30 p.m. to
see the fashion show at 9 p.m. Patrons
and sponsors will be included at the
"Hot House" after-party, where a DJ
will continue the Latin rhythms for
techno entertainment.

"We're going to have some fantasy
packages to auction," says Eisenberg,
who graduated from West Bloomfield
High School and Boston's
Northeastern University as an English
major before moving on to work in
the mortgage business.
