Arts & Entertainment PHOTO COLLAGES At age 9, Barry Roth became interested in pho- tography. His first dark- room was in the fruit cellar of his family home, and he used his mother's old soup bowls as developing trays. The Huntington Woods resident has come a long way; he currently enjoys a full-fledged photography career, which includes gigs as a staff photographer in Barry Roth: the Conservation "Constructed Image Department of the Detroit Photography" at Institute of Arts, teaching the Woods Gallery photography students at sev- eral local colleges and work- ing in sales and marketing of film and cameras. From Aug. 29-Oct. 7, Roth will mount an exhibition at the Woods Gallery in Huntington Woods. Tided "Constructed Image Photography," the show will show- case Roth's recycled bits and pieces of various items that appeal to him, which he then manipulates into collage; pushing the boundaries of traditional photography not only by creating his image, he also combines two photo- graphs side by side. The gallery is located in the lower level of the Huntington Woods Library, at 26415 Scotia in Huntington Woods. Hours are 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays. There will be an artist's reception 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8. For more information, call (248) 336-1961 or go to www.woodsgallery.org .
