Digest Drop Off Hebrew Program Offered Meditation: Talk Focus The Lifelong Learning program of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's Alliance for Jewish Education will start its fall Hebrew program for students on all levels. Classes will begin Tuesday, Sept. 6. Classes from Total Beginners Conversational Hebrew to Advanced Hebrew Language and Literature classes are being offered. The classes will be taught by qualified, experi- enced Hebrew teachers. They will be held at the Max M. Fisher Federation Building, 6735 Telegraph Road, Bloomfield Township. The cost of the courses includes all materials. The Alliance's Hebrew Department also has a selection of Hebrew materi- als for independent study. Rabbi Arnie Sleutelberg, spiritual leader of Congregation Shir Tikvah in Troy, will help the CST Sisterhood kick off its new program year at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8. Rabbi Arnie will speak on "Ancient Jewish Forms of Meditation Practices-How to Relax in a Hectic World." A light dinner will be served prior to the rabbi's talk. Reservations are requested by Sept. 4. There is a charge of $5 for those who are not sisterhood mem- bers. Among future sisterhood pro- grams are: a cooking demonstration with Elwin Greenwald of Elwin and Co., a talk by Allan Gale from the Jewish Community Council on "How Israel Is Portrayed in the Media," a presentation on women's health, a new member dinner, Sisterhood Sabbath and an end-of- year dinner. Lifelong Learning Series The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's Alliance for Jewish Education is taking registration for the fall semester of its Lifelong Learning classes. Highlights include "Priests, Prophets and Kings: The First Book of Samuel," a course dis- cussing the personalities that shaped the first kingdom in Israel. The course will be offered Wednesdays 10:30 a.m.-noon at the Max M. Fisher Federation Building and taught by Rabbi Rod Glogower, rabbinic resource person on staff of the B'nai B'rith Hillel Foundation at the University of Michigan. Rabbi Glogower will also teach a course titled "Inside the Rabbinic Mind," an exploration of Talmud, commentaries and other genres of rab- binic literature. It is being offered two different times: Tuesdays 10:30 a.m.- noon and Wednesdays 7:30-9 p.m., at the Max M. Fisher Federation Building. Students can register for either section.
