who struggle with mental illness.
The wonderful Lois and Milton Y. Zussman Activity Center on the lower level of
the Kadima Building is now fully operational; it enables us to provide our clients
with instruction in the arts, music and food preparation. It is also a fine place for
our clients to hang-out and socialize with others. Events where food service is
required will now take place at our Kadima building.
We are very pleased to have had an excellent season recruiting directors. Our
five new directors to the General Board are Jennifer Lewis, JoElyn Nyman, James
Schmidt, Ph.D., Phyllis Strome and Ted Wagner. We welcome their skills and enthu-
siasm. These new directors were introduced at our Annual Meeting on May 26,
2005.
Kadima has also opened the new Jerome Home, located in Oak Park. This is at
the request of our more observant community who needed a residence where indi-
ACTIVITY CENTER NEWS
Since the Activity Center opened on June 1, Kadima clients have had the
opportunity to take part in Breakfast Club, cooking demonstrations, jewelry
making, and an affirmations workshop. The center is also an ideal place
for clients to come visit with other Kadima friends, play cards and other
games, shoot pool, watch a movie, or read a book in the library.
An article about the center appeared in the Community section of the
Detroit Free press on June 30. Free Press staff came to the activity center
and interviewed a number of clients. Clients shared personal stories, and
also gave their perspectives on Kadima and the Center. Several clients had
their comments featured in the article.
On Friday July 7 we also hosted students from the JVS JOIN program.
The students visited with staff and clients, and learned about the Activity
Center and Kadima. Peer counselor Orin Ross talked to the students about
his position at the center. He also talked about life events that led him to
Kadima, and how Kadima has helped him.
Other plans for future classes include more arts and crafts classes, exer-
cise classes, walking club, nutrition classes, and music classes. We will also
be getting computers with internet access and a ping pong table. Any
Kadima client is welcome to come. The center is open Monday through
Friday, from 9:00 to 4:00.

KADIMA CAMP 2005
Kadima Camp 2005 was a new
and exciting adventure. This year
for the first time we really went to
"camp" and not a resort. Our desti-
nation was Camp Sea-Gull, just out-
side of Charlevoix. Twenty-eight
campers and five staff members spent five glorious days enjoying the water,
the sports equipment, the food, and the camaraderie of friends.
We used everything the camp had to offer. We enjoyed the waterfront,
swimming and canoeing in chilly Lake Charlevoix. Campers played tennis,
basketball, and softball. Each camper went home wearing a personalized
baseball cap created as part of our annual craft project. Of course, we
played Bingo for prizes while others enjoyed a game of Chess or Poker. Our
campfires were a huge success with lively conversations, singing, telling jokes,
and making S'mores. We also had an opportunity to cheer on our Detroit
Pistons in the Eastern Conference Finals at a local Charlevoix restaurant.
Our thanks go out to our generous benefactors, Steve and Nancy Grand,
who continue to fund our annual retreat. This is the highlight of the summer
for many of Kadima's clients who take home memories that will last a lifetime.
viduals have the opportunity to be closer to their family and
friends. Kadima now operates 19 facilities to serve our
clients, and housing continues to be the number one
request from the community.
We ask you to join us to insure Kadima's future when
we approach you to dig deeply into your pockets to con-
tribute to the Kadima Operational Endowment. We are the
safety net in our community for individuals with chronic
mental illness. We must be there for them and we need

your help to fulfill our mission.
President
We also invite you to laugh with us as we enjoy comedi-
an Steve Solomon's show,"My Mother's Italian and my Father's Jewish and I'm in
Therapy!" This Benefit performance will take place on September 20, 2005 at the
Max M. Fisher Music Center. I look forward to seeing you there.
FOURTH ANNUAL
KADIMA GOLF CLASSIC
The 2005 Kadima Golf Classic on June 20th at Knollwood Country Club was a
tremendous success in every way. Over 100 golfers enjoyed beautiful weather, great
golf, excellent food and
wonderful prizes. Golfers received Kadima golf shirts, golf balls , towels and a
watch. While dining on filet migon, participants made generous bids on auction
items which included a suite at Comerica Park, a week at a condo in Tucson,a restau-
rant package, a men's Omega watch, a Pilates package and an afternoon of sailing
. Participants also won raffle items that included bottles of wine, restaurant gift certifi-
cates and club memberships. Trophies were awarded for the highest and lowest team
scores, closest to the pin, and longest drive.
We also were fortunate to have a wonderful crew of volunteers greeting each per-
son and a dedicated golf committee who worked for months behind the scenes to
ensure the Golf Classic would be a success. Kadima is very proud that this year's golf
tournament generated more income for Kadima than any of the previous golf outings.
Thanks in part, to the profits from the Kadima golf outings The Lois and Milton
Zussman Activity Center, located in the lower level of the Kadima offices, is now fully
operational . It is no longer a hope for the future, but rather a vital operating facility
where our clients, men and women with psychiatric disabilities are gathering daily to
learn skills, meet with friends and enjoy life. We thank every person and organiza-
tion who participated and contributed to this wonderful and important event.
