It's been a turbulent year for Jewish
Major Leaguers. Astro BRAD AUS-
MUS (an ex-Tiger), Phillie MIKE LIB-
ERTHAL, Diamondback SHAWN
GREEN, Cardinal JASON MARQUIS,
Blue Jay SCOTT SCHOENEWEIS
and Pirate JOHN GRABOW are still
on the teams they started the season
with. However, AL LEVINE, who was
briefly up with the Giants, got sent
down.
In late July, rookie reliever CRAIG

— Jazz and blues. Chene Park, 2600
E. Atwater, Detroit. 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 25. $10-$15.

Jerome Duncan Ford Theatre, 14900
Metropolitan Parkway, Sterling
Heights. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug.
26. $18-$48. (248) 645-6666 or

Famous FirehOuse Sale — Fifty per-
cent off on vessels and tile. Pewabic
Pottery, 10125 E. Jefferson, Detroit.

BRESLOW was called-up by San Diego.
Meanwhile, Cubs rookie ADAM
GREENBERG was called up on July 7
only to be seriously beaned during his
first big league at-bat. He recovered in
the minors and may be recalled this year.
Boston began the season with KEVIN
YOUKILIS fighting for a spot and
rookie ADAM STERN injured. Stern
made the roster and Youkilis stayed on
the team until July,
when he was sent to
the minors. Early in
August, ex-Tiger

GABE KAPLER
rejoined the team after
playing in Japan, and
when Youkilis was
recalled on Aug. 8,
Gabe Kepler
three Jews took the
field for the Sox. This is .
the first time since 1962 that three
Jewish players are on a big league team.
(All the Major Leaguers above have one
or two Jewish parents and if they prac-
tice any faith, it is Judaism.)
In other news, Jewish Sports Review
newsletter named GARY ROSEN-
BERG of West Bloomfield, who plays
third base for John Hopkins University
(Baltimore), to its prestigious 2005
"College Division [NCAA Division 2
and 3] All-America Baseball Team." This
means Rosenberg is among the best
Jewish college players in the country.
