Crowd-Pleasing
Citroen
B

ack in Israel about 40
years ago, Amnon
Reiter bought a French-
made Citroen 2-cv for family
outings.
Originally manufactured for
farmers, the back seat could be
easily removed so loads of veg-
etables or potatoes could be
taken to market. The car is so
lightweight, it gets 40 miles per
gallon and can be practically be
picked up and carried by two
people.
Reiter, who lives in West
Bloomfield and owns Oakland
Salvage in Pontiac, removed the
back seat and inserted a playpen
so his two children, Mike and
Hadas, could amuse themselves
while he and his wife Naomi
drove all over the country.
When the family relocated in
1966, he promised them that
"one day, if I find one in America, I'll
get one."
Fast forward to 1991, the family has
grown by one son, Alon, but the
promise is kept.
Reiter also owns a 1959 Cadillac
convertible, but on Dream Cruise
weekend, the Citroen is clearly the
crowd pleaser.
The 11th annual Woodward Dream
Cruise runs 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on
Saturday, Aug. 20. The 16-mile cruise

Available at all MI1B branch locations.
