I 0 DETROIT SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA 2005 Summer Concerts at MEADOW BROOK Three candidates for the unpaid position of SAG president have announced: the pretty Morgan Fairchild; ALAN ROSENBERG ( The Guardian); and Robert (Wild Wild West) Conrad. Interestingly enough, about five years ago Conrad told reporters that he recently discovered that his mater- nal grandmother was Jewish. Meanwhile, Melissa's sister, SARAH GILBERT (Roseanne), has been cast in the new WB series Twins; scheduled to premiere at mid-season. Great seats still available! This Friday, August 5 at 8 pm TCHAIKOVSKY SPECTACULAR Featuring one of the world's most loved violin concertos, a selection of other Tchaikovsky masterworks and the 1812 Overture. Busey Goes Ballistic Currently airing on VH-1 is the reality series Celeb Fit Club 2. The show pits two five-member teams of "B"-list celebs against each another to see who can win various athletic contests and get into the best shape. Actor Gary Busey, best known for the Buddy Holly Story and a long history of substance abuse, is the captain of one team. On his team is WENDY KAUFMAN, a.k.a. the "Snapple Lady" from the popular Snapple TV ads, and actor Willie Aames, formerly a star of Eight is Enough. Well, in an episode that aired a couple of weeks ago, Busey gath- ered his team together, told them to join hands and lead them in a prayer that ended in "through our Savior, Jesus Christ." Kaufman, who is Jewish, object- ed. She said to Busey, "Can't you do it just 'for God?" Busey went crazy, and replied "Why don't you let me finish the prayer, stupid?" Later he told ashow interviewer, "the anti-Christ is everywhere" and touted his status as a lay minister. Supporting Kaufman's objection was teammate Willie Aames. He called Busey's comments "crap." But what wasn't revealed on VH-1 is that Aames is a devout evangeli- cal Christian and the producer of a very popular Christian cartoon series. The obvious lesson is that one can be an evangelical Christian and be sensitive to other people's reli- gious faith. It's too bad V1-1-1 did- n't make Aames' background clear so the audience would know that not every Christian is a boob like Busey. This Saturday, August 6 at 8 pm BIG BAD VOODOO DADDY This rockin' big band kicked off the swing revival in the mid-'90s with their appearance in the film Swingers.
