hen a crowd of more than
300 gathered to mark the
11th yahrtzeit of the
Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem
Mendel Schneerson, it was "to express
our appreciation to him," said Yehudis
Brea of Oak Park.
"The Rebbe's legacy is everywhere;
his boundless capacity to love all Jews
unconditionally; his simple agenda of
Jewish unity; how he showed us the
beauty and depth of the Torah'," Brea
said.
In addition to members of Chabad
congregations and agencies, the July 6
dinner "also attracted those who came
to learn about Chabad," according to
Brea.
The event, held at the Shriners
Auditorium and Convention Center
in Southfield, was hosted by Michigan
area Chabad shluchim (emissaries).
The crowd heard keynote speaker
Rabbi Sholom Lipskar, a Chabad
emissary from Bel Harbor, Fla., speak
about the Rebbe's legacy and viewed a
video presentation offering insights

into Rabbi Schneerson's character and
work.
"The Rebbe emphasized the impor-
tance of ahavat Yisrael [love of every
Jew]... and the observance of the
Noahide laws by Gentiles," Brea said.
"He stirred the conscience of world
Jewry, but he was a role model of sim-
plicity with boundless energy. His
teachings and concern for us all were
honest and his leadership was real." ❑
