MAX "JERRY" HERMAN, 83, of
West Bloomfield, died July 18, 2005.
A neon sign salesperson, he was a vet-
eran of World War II and was in the
Army Signal Corps in Hawaii.
Mr. Herman is survived by son and
daughter-in-law, Neal and Maxine
Herman of Walled Lake; daughter and
son-in-law, Polly and Eric Carpenter
of West Bloomfield; grandchildren,
Zachary Herman, Mark Patton and
Mason Levey; brother and sister-in-
law, Edward and Ida Herman of
Florida. He was the beloved father of
the late Shayle Herman; dear brother
of the late Rae Kozlow.

GEORGE KANTOR, 86, of

Farmington Hills, died July 25, 2005.
For 18 years, he
was a teacher at
Cass Tech. He was
also a finish and
rough carpenter,
taught in Oak Park
and Farmington
school districts, a
member of Kappa
Chi Fraternity, a
Fresh Air Society
Kantor
counselor and past
director of Camp
Sea Gull. In addition, he was an avid
bridge player and sports enthusiast.
Mr. Kantor is survived by his wife,
Beatrice Kantor; sons and daughters-
in-law, Mitchell and Nanci Kantor of
Bloomfield Hills, Larry and Lynn
Kantor of West Bloomfield; daughter
and son-in-law, Nancy and David
Levin of Birmingham; grandchildren,
Anthony "Tony" Kantor, Lisa Kantor,
Scott Kantor, Matthew Kantor,
Jonathan and Gimena Kantor; sister-
in-law, Eleanor Winston. He was the
loving brother of the late Benjamin
Kantor, the late Goldie King; dear
brother-in-law of the late Andrew
Winston and the late Albert King

BETTI KURTZMAN, 87, recently of

Oakland, Calif, and long-time resi-
dent of Bloomfield Hills, died July 17,
2005. A graduate of Central High
School and Wayne State University,
Mrs. Kurtzman was a lifelong support-
er of the city of Detroit.
She opened the Birmingham
Bookstore after holding previous posi-
tions as the Merrill-Palmer School's
director of alumni relations and
teacher of home economics at
Mumford High School. A member of
the ACLU, the NAACP, the Demo-
cratic Party, Planned Parenthood,
Americans for Democratic Action,
Chamber Music Society and the
Detroit Institue of Arts. She was also a
Stratford Shakespeare Festival Patron,
an active supporter of the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra, WAND and a
member of Birmingham Temple.
Mrs. Kurtzman is survived by
daughters, Susan Kurtzman of
Southfield and Carolyn Ban of
Pittsburgh, Pa.; son and daughter-in-
law, Woof Kurtzman and Elizabeth
Hertz of Oakland; grandchildren,
Elissa Rogin, Jennifer Rogin-Marks
