for the Jewish health care

area," saying that the
number of Jewish physi-
cians on staff "has grown
considerably in recent
years, perhaps partly
Robert
because the Jewish popu-

lation has increased in
this area."
He notes that the hospital has an
active diversity program for its staff to
inform them about the cultural and reli-
gious traditions and customs of patients.
"We provide Shabbos candles,
kosher meals and rabbinical services
for Jewish patients who want them,
and the Jewish News is now sold here,"
Yellan said. "Our Krieger Center for
Senior Adults has an active partnership
with Jewish Apartments and Services,"
providing physicians, nurses and social
workers to speak about health care
topics at Hechtman and Meer Jewish
Apartments. Additionally, holiday dec-
orations are now more diverse, includ-
ing Chanukah decorations in the
lobby in December.
Dr. Marc P. Bocknek, D.O., of
Farmington Hills, a member of Temple
Israel in West Bloomfield, was recently
elected the hospital's chief of staff ❑

it a Pointe to be the Best!
Summer Company Intensive
Sunday, August 28 through Wednesday, August 31
makes sense because Walled Lake used
to be part of Commerce Township.
"I was looking to get into a new
condo and we found exactly what we
were looking for at that time," Kamin
says of her family's move to the area.
"Every time something would come
in, we would get excited though I
don't know why because with it
would come more people. I remember
looking out the window and I could
see the trees dropping."
But the development also meant -
improved schools, a new library, great
shopping and a Jewish community.
"I remember a time when people
would not send their kids to the
Walled Lake schools, and there was
no Costco, no Target, no anything,"
Kamin says. "Now we've added a
whole different level to our school sys-
tem and there is so much going on
out here. There are a lot of Jewish
people living in the condos and some
[complexes] seem to be half Jewish."
"It's great out here, we love it. The
nature preserves, Berry Lake, Walled
Lake Beach and the nature trails.
We've got to be sure to keep nice
pockets of green like in West
Bloomfield." ❑
