The Temple Beth El confirmation class
of 2005 was honored at Shavuot servic-
es, Sunday, June 12. Members of the
class include Jessica Ursula Brand,
Lauren Carly Leiand, Jeffrey Lawrence
Lisiecki, Chloe Jae MacKinnon, Max
Eric Roberts, Erica Celeste Rogers,
Sarah Jenny Rollins, Evan Brian Rosen,
Andrew Robert Rubinstein, Lathan

Helene Tarnovvsky, Emily Jill Victor
and Hunter Gregory MacWilliams-
Wolf.

performed at the JCC in West
Bloomfield and at Shabbat evening
services on July 15 at Temple Israel in
West Bloomfield.
Their vibrant personalities came
through in their performances. The
teens come from all around Israel.
They are Omer Kaplan of Shoham,
Ben Bachar of Ma'ale Adumim, Amir
Even of Ramat Hasharon, Nadav
Schwartz of Tel Aviv, Ran Ezra of
Beersheva, Shani Cohen of Rehovot,
Ophir Shani of Savion, Dana Elkis of
Haifa, Lifshitz of Haifa, Neta
Ovsiovich of Ganei Tikva, Gai Aviram
of Shikun Banim and Ronnie Baharav
of Ra'anana.
At the end of a very long day, the
Scouts showed they were true perform-
ers when they honored a request from
Susan Nest of Farmington Hills, who
arrived at Temple Israel after work and
missed their entire performance.
She was treated to a private a cappel-
la performance of the song, "Aleluya."
"They're awesome," was all Nest
could say. ❑
Aish Hosts Ladies
Aish HaTorah will begin its Ladies
Cafe Series 7:30 p.m. Monday, July
25, at Grille 173 on Woodward and
14 Mile Road, Royal Oak. The series
will offer entertainment, education,
food and fun. The cost for the dinner
evening is $25. There will be a short
talk by Dr. Janet Snider, "A Spark of

Linda Hayman of
Bloomfield Hills has
been named chair of the
board of the American
Committee for the
Weizmann Institute of
Science Michigan
Region. She also serves
as chair of the Golda
Hayman
Meir Club of Israel
Bonds and is a trustee on the Detroit
Thanksgiving Day Parade Committee.
Ellen Kotler was installed as the new
president of Congregation B'nai Moshe.
Also installed were vice presidents Kerry
Greenhut, Alisa Peskin Shepherd and
Douglas Zack; treasurer, Dan Sperling
recording secretary, Naomi Pinchuk;
financial secretary, Ellyce Field. Elected
and installed as members of the board of
directors were Dennis Blender, Donald
Cohen, Steven Fine, Larry Glanz,
Michael Liebowitz, Steven Mondrow,
Elissa Paul, Ruth Shayne and Steven
Sperling.
Dr. Craig Goldin of Clawson has won
multiple awards in the annual American
Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry
National Smile Gallery competition
sponsored by Americus Dental Labs Inc.
He exhibited outstanding skill in cos-
metic dental procedures.
Botsford General Hospital in
Farmington Hills annually honors physi-
cians for outstanding accomplishments.
Among the honorees this year were Dr.
Farl Hecker of Bloomfield Hills, who
received a distinguished service award,
and Dr. Harold D. Margolis of West
Bloomfield, who won an award for 25
years of service.
Sally Scharg of West Bloomfield, a jun-
ior at the University of Michigan School
of Nursing, is a volunteer this summer
with Magen David Adorn in Israel. She
is assigned to work on an ambulance in
Beersheva, Israel.
Elliot Gertel of the University of
Michigan and Rachel Kamin of Temple
Israel participated at the Association of
Jewish Libraries annual convention.
Kamin, director of libraries and media
center at Temple Israel, presented a sem-
inar on organizing a synagogue, day
school or community center library in a
professional way. She also participated
on a panel on children's literature.
Gertel, curator of Judaica at U-M, led a
presentation that explored how the
2,000 works of art, books posters, post-
cards, stamps, coins and curios donated
to the library aid the mission of the
library and support the curricular
demands and research interests of stu-
dents, faculty and scholars.

Nicholson is a 1996
graduate of the
Hebrew Union College

— School of Sacred
Nicholson
Music, Jerusalem and
New York. She served
as the cantor of
Congregation Solol in Highland Park,
Ill., and Temple Sinai of North Dade,
Miami, Fla. She will join Rabbi
Joseph Klein for a series of seven spe-
cial Shabbat and holiday weekends
throughout the year, including the
High Holidays. In addition, she will
also lead several educational and
music programs. -
The July 29 service will begin with
a Shabbat family picnic (adults $13
and children $7). Services will follow
in the Birnkrant Garden at 7:30 p.m.
