you can make a comeback. I just
realized it was time to take a hall

me; my shtick got tired."
He refuses to badmouth any of his
films, perhaps feeling that the critics
did a good enough job. "I didn't go
into any of my movies thinking they
were going to fail," he adds.
Minding the Store is surprisingly
funny and at times touching. Only
the first two of five episodes were
released to the media. In one, Pauly
invites his father to open for him on
a two-night tour. Sammy accepts and
kills. Kills.
Pauly watches off stage, with tears
in his eyes. Whatever bad feelings
existed between the two of them are
apparently gone.
The real battle is with his mom,
who is never seen on camera. She's

minding is the famed Comedy Store
in Los Angeles, founded by his
father, comic Sammy Shore, and
mom, Mitzi, and awarded to his
mother as part of his parents' divorce
settlement.
Like Pauly's career, the store ran
into hard times; Pauly took it over
around three years ago at Mitzi's
request. "I thought trying to get the
store going and my career going and
my personal life together would be a
cool idea for a show," he says.
It took him about two years to
find an interested network. Shore
won't say how many he approached
before Turner programming execu-
tive Steve Koonin gave the project a
green light. "TBS seemed the most
excited, and Steve Koonin loves the
show and the family aspect of the
business," says Shore.
